Sorrel’s Progress: Early Training Successes and Adventures

We’ve been quiet on the blog front, but rest assured, we’ve been busy with Sorrel’s early training! Sorrel, our promising young pup, has just completed our eight-week puppy course, and we’re thrilled to share her progress with you.

Puppy Course Achievements

Over the past eight weeks, Sorrel has been laying down the basics, and she’s done remarkably well. Here are some highlights:

  • Recall Training: Sorrel recalls reliably, even with distractions from other puppies and people.
  • Retrieving Skills: She’s learning to hold retrieves and deliver them to hand, showing great promise for future training.

Growing Up Strong

Sorrel is currently weighing in at 10.65 kg at 19 weeks old. She’s growing into a healthy and strong pup, and her playful personality is shining through. While she loves playtime with other dogs, her favorite playmate is Orchid, though Orchid isn’t always as enthusiastic.

Crate and Lead Training

Sorrel continues to settle well both in and out of the crate. Her lead training is coming along nicely, though we focus on training rather than walks at this stage. We take her to various locations to proof her behaviour, ensuring she doesn’t pick up any undesirable habits. It’s crucial to get it right from the start—often, people inadvertently train the behaviours they don’t want and then blame the dog.

Early Hunting and Obedience

We’ve begun some early hunting exercises with Sorrel, making sure she stays close and remains focused on us. She’s also learning to stop on the whistle, a behavior we continue to proof diligently. All training is integrated with her meal times and field sessions using dummies and toys.

Cooling Down and Water Work

This week, Sorrel was introduced to our fountain pool, which she absolutely loves! She enjoys getting wet and dirty, and she’s even retrieved from the pool to hand—a perfect little introduction to water work.

Kennel Time

Sorrel has also been spending some time in the kennel, both on her own and with different kennel mates. This helps her adapt to various environments and social situations, contributing to her well-rounded development.

Final Thoughts

We’re incredibly pleased with Sorrel’s progress. She’s a cracking little dog with lots of character and potential. Her early training successes set a strong foundation for her future, and we’re excited to see how she continues to develop.

Stay tuned for more updates on Sorrel’s journey. We’ll be sharing more of her adventures and training milestones soon!
