A Growing Star: Sorrel at 9 Months

At 9 months old, Sorrel is thriving and blossoming into a truly wonderful young dog. Weighing in at 15.3kg, she is now the biggest of our girls, both in size and personality. Despite her stature, she’s an absolute sweetheart with a gentle, affectionate nature that makes her a joy to be around.

Sorrel has transitioned to living full-time in her kennel, sometimes on her own and sometimes sharing with her kennel mates. This time of year, she’s learning the valuable skill of being content in her kennel alone while the others are out working. This is such an important part of her development, and we’re proud to say she’s taking it all in stride, remaining calm and settled when left behind.

Training Progress

Her training is progressing beautifully. Here’s what we’ve been working on:

   •   Recall – Sorrel is responding reliably, building the trust and connection that’s key to her future work.

   •   Stop Whistle – She’s learning to pause on cue, an essential skill for control and safety.

   •   Manners and Lead Walking – Politeness and composure are fundamental, and Sorrel is showing great promise here.

   •   Hunting – She’s developing a lovely hunting style, working closely and staying within range—just what we like to see.

Careful with Retrieving

When it comes to retrieving, Sorrel is very keen. While this enthusiasm is fantastic, we’re mindful not to overstimulate her at this stage. Instead of focusing heavily on retrieves, we’ve been prioritizing calmness and self-control around the retrieve. By reinforcing holding exercises and a steady demeanor, we’re setting her up for long-term success as a confident and balanced worker.

she has also begin puppy swims At our local hydrotherapy centre. She is very splashy snd not the most elegant swimmer but she is confident and practice makes perfect

It’s such a pleasure to watch Sorrel grow—not just physically but in her attitude, confidence, and skills. She’s proving to be a real credit to her breeding and training. We’re excited to see her continue to develop in the months ahead!

Stay tuned for more updates on Sorrel and the rest of the team.
